Two Hammond Transportation Families Celebrate Milestones

This past Tuesday, Mike Holotuk from the Bracebridge yard wrote his mechanics test in North Bay. In an ordinary family this would be an exciting moment, but for the Holotuks it is an extra special occasion… As Mike will be quick to point out, all of the Holotuk men are mechanics!

His family story goes back to the late-40s, when Louis Holotuk, Mike’s grandfather, started his own garage in Huntsville. Since then working in shops has become a family tradition. Mike’s father Ted can be found working at the Muskoka Transport Garage. Vern Boyes, his uncle, is a familiar face here at Hammond Transportation. Like Mike, he can be found working on buses and cracking jokes with whoever passes by at the Bracebridge shop.

Ron Holotuk is the owner of Holotuk’s Garage in Bear Valley, ON (near Trout Lake). Both Mike’s brother Jamie and his uncle Allen are mechanics too. Even though Mike won’t know for another two weeks how he did on the mechanics test, he is quick to point out that coming from a family of mechanics “benefits [him[” because his trade is “bred into [him].” Good luck Mike!

On July 15, Bracebridge driver Dawn Penwarden gave birth to a beautiful boy, Jacob. A lot of births happen here at Hammond Transportation, but it isn’t very often that we get to celebrate a new mother, new grandmother and new greatgrandmother
all at once!

Both Dawn’s mother and grandmother are experienced drivers and long time members of the Hammond Transportation team. Congratulations to new grandma Robyn Syvret and great-grandma Lois Forth. Lois is one of our most veteran drivers. She has been driving activity and school buses for over 35 years.
